A terrified pony had to to be dug out from a deep hole by a digger after it fell and became trapped in a dramatic video.

The clip, filmed in Clwyd, Wales, shows the white pony, named Flo, peeking from a crevice in the earth as the mechanical arm of the digger scrapes way soil.

As the driver carefully digs up mud, the horse manages to lift its legs up onto the banking as the hole is made big enough for it to escape.

It hauls itself up and makes a dash for it across the field as one man says: ‘I can’t believe she’s not hurt’.

Rosie Wilson, from Whitford, Wales, had gone to check the ponies in a field when she realised one was missing.

She says they frantically searched the field before hearing the pony whinny in distress from the deep hole.

With the help of farmers and a local man with a digger, the group managed to free the pony which ran away unscathed.

Fortunately the pony wasn’t trapped overnight after Ms Wilson spotted she was missing from the field.

She wrote on Facebook: ‘The sort of thing you never think will happen to you! Went to pick a couple of ponies up from a friend, but one was missing. Search the field, fortunately Jo heard her whinny. ‘Can’t believe she is in one piece, feeling so lucky right now. Stiff drink required!

‘Needless to say I was shaking too much to film anything!’ she added.

Friend Jo Swift wrote on Facebook: ‘This is why checking your ponies twice a day is so important.

‘Luckily with the help of farmers and a fantastic digger man, Flo was completely unhurt. She wasn’t down there last night’.
